I thought i would post my thoughts about Linspire 8.7.
Its based on Ubuntu 18.04(.4) LTS
It features:
MATE 1.20.1, LTS Server Kernel 5.3.0-40, Rhythmbox, VLC, OnlyOffice instead of Libreoffice, Aisleriot Solitaire, Google Chrome, Software Center for easy application installation, Skype, Ice SSB to enable any web application to work like a native desktop application, Chrome web application framework, Full multimedia playback including DVD, blueray, MP3 etc, Remote Administration capability, Samba windows networking, Microsoft Powershell just to name a few.
The Mate desktop offers a more traditional desktop experience for Windows 7 and Windows 10 users. Its is more spartan but very fulll-featured, Mate offers a path forward for Windows 7 users whose systems may be unable to run Windows 10 effectively / efficiently.
Once I started the system the first thing i noticed was the Date and time was beside the launch menu... a bit different, but i found it simple enough to move. I also like the fact under the 'add to panel' option it has drawers to tidy up the task bar which helps to maintain a tidy appearance.
It also has a weather panel application built by Mate developers so matches in perfectly.
The menu preferences help to set up the menu the way you like it with search providers like Wikipedia, Google or duckduckgo.
You can tweak your theme adjust your borders choose how many columns you want to make it wide and how high you want to make the launch menu.
I consider it to be very polished and very well maintained. it uses Ubuntu Repositories so there are a lot of applications and you can use Ubuntu PPA's for quicker adding repos into the lists. Thunderbird is installed by default and works very well korganizer works well with Mate as well although i have had issues with it with KDE Plasma...
Overall in my personal opinion, Linspire 8.7 Is a very polished release of Linspire and I highly recommend it.
How do you find it? I would be keen to find out.
