I really like Linspire 8.0 Alpha 5. I'm just a sucker for the simplicity yet usefulness of the XFCE desktop.
Quick suggestion: You should include DockbarX and the XFCE DockbarX plugin as default. It's really simple to set up. All you do is set the default settings and what apps you want in the dock as default - it's more like the Windows 7 QuickAccess feature - and then execute the following commands (from home directory):
gconftool-2 --dump /apps/dockbarx > dockbarx.xml sudo gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults --load /home/user/dockbarx.xml

I just installed Linspire 8.0 Alpha 5 and I am quite impressed with it so far. The installer was buttery smooth with no issues. Upon booting up my system, the Software updater opened up without my having to select it. Installing additional software was equally smooth with no complaints. XFCE is nicely done and the system has been stable.
All in all, Alpha 5 doesn't seem like an Alpha release.
